Allow a full day for Jiuzhaigou Valley and keep extra time for altitude, transfers and weather changes when combining the area with Huanglong.
Best time to visit
April to November covers the main travel season. Spring and summer bring green forests and strong water flow, while autumn is especially popular for colorful mountain scenery.
How many days do I need?
Three to four days is practical for most trips, including a full day inside Jiuzhaigou Valley, time for Huanglong and the transfers needed to reach and leave the region.
How to get there
Most travelers connect through Chengdu, then continue via Huanglongjiuzhai Station, Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport or arranged road transfers depending on the itinerary.
Getting around
Jiuzhaigou Valley uses sightseeing transport between major scenic areas, with walking sections at key stops. Transfers between the valley, Huanglong, stations and the airport should be planned in advance because distances and altitude can make travel slower than expected.
What to combine it with
Huanglong is the most natural companion destination, while Chengdu is the main gateway and a strong city contrast. A longer itinerary can continue onward from Chengdu toward Chongqing.
