Practical Travel Info for Huangshan
Stay overnight on the mountain if sunrise or sunset is a priority, and allow a separate half or full day for Hongcun, Xidi or other Huizhou villages.
Best time to visit
April to November offers the broadest range of hiking conditions. Spring and autumn are popular for mild temperatures and clearer views, while summer can be greener but wetter and busier.
How many days
Allow 2–4 days: one to two days for Yellow Mountain and at least one additional day for Hongcun, Xidi, Tunxi or another Huizhou cultural stop.
How to get there
Huangshan North Railway Station is the main high-speed rail gateway, with convenient connections from Hangzhou, Shanghai and other eastern China cities. Huangshan Tunxi International Airport also serves selected routes.
Getting around
Yellow Mountain, Hongcun, Xidi and the old towns are spread across the region. Private transfers are the simplest option for combining mountain entrances, villages and rail or airport connections efficiently.
What to combine it with
Huangshan pairs naturally with Hangzhou and Shanghai, and can also be linked with Suzhou for a broader eastern China itinerary focused on scenery, gardens and historic towns.
