Practical Travel Info for Beijing
Book major sights such as the Forbidden City in advance and avoid planning the Great Wall and multiple central-city landmarks on the same day.
Best time to visit
April to June and September to October usually offer the most comfortable sightseeing weather. Spring and autumn are especially suitable for long walking days and Great Wall excursions.
How many days do I need?
Three days covers the essential imperial sights and one Great Wall visit at a fast pace. Four to five days is more comfortable if you want hutongs, museums, parks and a less rushed schedule.
How to get there
Beijing is served by Capital International Airport and Daxing International Airport, plus several major railway stations with high-speed connections across China.
Getting around
The metro works well for many central districts, but Beijing is very large and major sights can be far apart. Great Wall sections are outside the city, so a dedicated transfer or day tour is the simplest option.
What to combine it with
Xi’an is a natural next stop for travelers continuing through China’s imperial history, while Datong works well for a shorter northern China extension focused on grottoes and historic architecture.
